Ok Matt Cutts showed us an example how not to hide text in this video.

Ok, of course that is a stupid way to hide text. And of course Matt Cutts will say do not hide the text. But I will tell you a secret!

How to hide text that the Google Spam Team will NEVER find out!

You think Matt Cutts is the smartest guy in the world? I am a professional blackhat and I know the perfect way that Matt Cutts will never be able to see my hidden text eveeerrr!!!

Ok, promise not to tell anyone this procedure. I do not know how long I will keep this up online, and you are probably the selected few that will be able to read this completely…

Once you read this, I suggest stay low and don’t promote this that much. I know many of you may have been reading about user agent detection, conditional IP redirection, forward and backward DNS checking of Googlebot, but all of those are not effective. Some from Google can still find out about those.

So here the is perfect way to hide text. Feel free to print this page for future reference. There are several steps but they are not hard. Just follow the steps to the letter.

Highlight the text you want to hide in the HTML source code of your webpage.

Hit Ctrl-X and this will cut the text and place it in your computer’s imaginary clipboard.

Open your favorite text editor like MS Word, or any kind. This is platform independent by the way. You can do this on a Mac or a Linux machine.

Hit Ctrl-V while in your favorite text editor. This will paste the hidden text you have in the clipboard. Getting better huh? It’s really hidden that I doubt Matt can see this.

Saving this file is optional, you can do File –> Save or just hit Ctrl-S but saving it leaves traces of the file. It might not be that hidden. I highly recommend do not save it. This is important! Remember this step please.

Next is press Ctrl-P and this brings up the Print dialog box. You will see a Print or OK button. Before clicking on that, make sure you have the correct print that is ready/online and the printer has paper loaded before you click the button. If everything is all ready, print the document.

Once the document is printed, fold it in half crosswise, then fold it in half again. This is a recursive process. Here is the code you could use:

while ($canStillFold == 1) {
foldPaper(crosswise);
}

Place the folder paper in a zip-lock bag. To even be more secure, try using a Tamper Indicating Blue-Adhesive Security Bag or a secure deposit bag. Seal the bag.

With a shovel, dig a hole in the ground. The diameter can be the diameter of the shovel. So a small shovel would be more ideal. The larger the hole you make on the ground, the more footprint security trails you will leave that Googlebot might be able to crawl. A 10″ diameter hole in the ground should be good enough. And make this hole about 3 feet deep. This way, it is deep enough that dogs won’t dig in the hole and dogs are sometimes crawled by Googlebot.

Put the sealed bag with the hidden content in the hole, and cover it again with the soil you dug out. Compact the soil well by jumping over it. Then water over it, for the mud to harden. Give is a day to dry up.

On the next day, take a look at the covered dug area and try to check for anything unusual. If it looks fishy, someone might submit it to the Google Spam Report page. We don’t want that to happen. Use the Firefox Web Developer Toolbar and disable JavaScript, CSS, Images and see how it looks like. If the area looks too clean, make it a bit dirty to match the surroundings. No one will see it unless they do a Ctrl-A. Put some twigs on there, some fallen leaves, grass, whatever. One of my favorites is dog poop, it drives away people. If you do not have a dog, you can buy dog poop as gifts and use it to cover the dug site.

Task complete! This hidden content is so hidden that even you might forget about it. So take note of the proximity of the hidden text with other objects in it’s surroundings, remember it well with an estimated distance so when you need the text, you know where to dig. If it is over a large area that looks all the same, you can use online maps. I suggest try using Bing Maps because if you use Google Maps, that is like feeding yourself to the lions. Even if you place your hidden text on the moon or on Mars, Google Maps can find you.

Save this now and print it. Because I do not know how long I will keep this secret in a public blog post. This is a special offer that in the next day or two I will put this down unless you want to receive the special printout of this exact blog post mailed to you in a secure ziplock bag printed on plain bond paper. If you want a copy, just send me $20 bucks and I will mail this to you and you can hide this content also in a hole in the ground. To order, simply use the buy now button. Shipping is free and this product is no return, no exchange.

If you have the time, may I please ask for some tips how you got most of your pages of your globalwarming awareness2007 blog in the supplemental index? Carl

Before I do answer this, lets do some definitions first.

What is Google’s Supplemental Index?

A lot of bloggers blogged about this, some say it’s really bad while some say don’t even worry about it. But taking it from Google Engineer Matt Cutts, he says it’s something not to worry about. And as mentioned in one of the episodes of The Pulse by Barry Schwartz with Chris Boggs and Ben Pfeiffer, has mentioned that the Supplemental Index seems to be a good step for Google to take to clean up the search results where some extra checking may be needed.

Do I think the Supplemental Index is something good or something to worry about?

Personally I think it’s ok to have the supplemental index. Because in the eyes of the search engine user, the supplemental index attempts to put down the ranking of pages that still needs further review (not necessarily some person manually reviewing sites, maybe it’s just a longer algorithmic process. or maybe it will be stuck there forever unless the page changes.) and are placed in the supplemental index. Some say the pages in supplemental index do not appear in the search results, but based on my experience, the results are included in the search results but are placed last. And pages that are in the main index are given higher ranking.

What makes your sites go into the supplemental index?

Mainly duplicate content. This is mainly in the main content of the site although I have seen several company websites with many pages in the supplemental index and upon looking into them, some of these sites have the same Title tags and Meta Keywords and Meta Descriptions, thus it is nice to have them all different. I believe there was a time that Search Engine Watch had this problem too. So the solution is simple, avoid duplicate content. And I personally like the supplemental index because it is a good indicator that I have duplicate content somewhere telling me I need to fix my site.

Blog problems with duplicate content

Carl was asking me about his problem with his site in supplemental index. I checked his site that had 320 pages indexed in the Google with about 115 of it in supplemental results. I did not look further into his site but i just assumed right away it is some common WordPress blog issues with SEO on duplicate content. I happens all the time on many blogs. Duplicate content on blogs can happen with various ways how to view the same story but with different URLs.

Homepage and pages from the homepage

Archive view by date

Category view

Permalink of the story itself

That is already the possible chance of showing 4 views of the same content. Causing duplicate content and many pages may land in the supplemental index. Below is a good video presentation by Michael “Grayworf” Gray on this on how to get pages of WordPress blogs have minimal duplicate content.

Now what I used to do in not making other pages viewed by search engines causing duplicate content is I even cloaked some of my navigational elements so search engines would not crawl it, but that might have some issues being in the gray area, and what I used on my SEO World Championship contest entry that won the contest, was several things, first the plugin by Badi Jones of SEOLogs, the WordPress Duplicate Content Cure. This makes all other views like the archive and category views have the meta tag noindex so that pages does not get indexed. I also make it a point I do the right 301 redirects for domain canonicalization issues and I use my own 301 redirect modification using PHP. And that’s basically what I did with my other blogs. Not all my blogs since sometimes I am lazy fixing all of them. SEO for client sites are still a priority.

When this came out, SEO bloggers left and right posted stuff about this right away. I was to busy to react and blog about it for any attempt to win any link baiting stuff. But a friend of mine, while chatting just a few minutes ago, she asked my opinion about the Google Universal Search Results. And I decided to just copy and paste a portion of our conversation which was very short. Since I am not sure if I can post her name, I did not use her real name. And I did not ask permission as well to post this conversation.

[08:55] Adlig: Have to go and eat down stairs but would like to hear what you think about the google universal search change
[08:56] Benj Arriola: There are two kinds of reactions to that…
[08:56] Benj Arriola: Reaction 1 – Oh No! The news and video stuff are pushing my web results down.
[08:56] Adlig: I saw an article and will pass it to tomorrow but think there was an underlining reason why they changed things around
[08:56] Benj Arriola: Reaction 2 – Yes! My newsfeed and blog search results and the videos I posted are going up!
[08:57] Adlig: I’m in the middle
[08:57] Benj Arriola: So just to not have reaction 1, better do everything then.
[08:58] Adlig: Ok, great talking to you, have to eat with the family. Have a great weekend.
[08:59] Benj Arriola: You too.

That’s basically my opinion. Since Google mixed it all up, then do everything. Even if Google did not mix it all up, I would still probably be doing everything.
